We have a lot to celebrate this year. It is Federation’s 80th anniversary, Israel’s 70th anniversary and we are in a Chai (life) year (2018). We are beginning the year by partnering with the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba to rebrand the Endowment campaign. The Federation’s Leave More Than Memories (LMTM) fund has a new look. Please consider leaving a legacy gift to the Federation and help us to reach our goal of having 80 for 80; 80 newly endowed gifts to LMTM. If you already have an endowment fund, we encourage you to consider directing its interest income to the CJA campaign. A healthy endowment fund will help to sustain the campaign in perpetuity.

What is Leave More Than Memories?

Leave More Than Memories is a perpetual annual campaign endowment fund held at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba and created for the sole purpose of enabling donors to continue supporting the annual community campaign – the Combined Jewish Appeal – forever.

Jewish tradition teaches that one of our main responsibilities is to make the world a better place for future generations. As a Jewish Winnipegger, you probably already donate generously to the Jewish charitable organizations of your choice. Have you considered including those organizations in your will, so you can continue to make a difference for generations to come?

Your Leave More Than Memories legacy can reflect everything that is important and meaningful to you. The legacy planning process can encourage heartfelt conversations with your family and build bonds with your preferred community agencies. Whether you use a will or other estate planning vehicle, your generosity can help secure the future of our Jewish community.

The act of creating a legacy empowers you to complete the work of your heart, and to enjoy the peace that it brings. You are assured that your investment in community will continue. We can help you start this rewarding process.

What is a perpetual annual campaign endowment?

A perpetual annual campaign endowment is a permanent fund dedicated to endowing your annual Combined Jewish Appeal gift. This fund is not intended to take the place of an annual gift; it is a permanent legacy that will continue to make your annual gift to the campaign in perpetuity in your name. Winnipeg’s perpetual annual campaign endowment is called Leave More Than Memories.

You may create your endowment through a variety of vehicles, some of which provide your estate with considerable tax benefits without the requirement that you contribute during your lifetime. These options allow you to perpetuate your commitment to the CJA in a way that best achieves your own personal financial and estate planning goals.

What is the Lion of Judah Endowment?

The Lion of Judah is a symbol of today’s Jewish woman’s strength, a symbol of her caring about the organized Jewish world and a symbol of her financial commitment of at least $5,000 to the annual CJA campaign. More than 75 Winnipeg women are Lions of Judah.

The right to wear the Lion of Judah brooch is contingent upon a woman’s individual contribution to the annual CJA.

Establishing a Lion of Judah Endowment allows a woman to fund her annual Lion of Judah gift in perpetuity. Over 3,044 women in Canada and the US have established a Lion of Judah endowment with a gift of $125,000 or more.

What is the Star of David Society?

The Star of David Society is an elite international recognition program that honours outstanding philanthropists whose commitment to the Jewish community extends beyond the present. A Leave More Than Memories gift of $200,000 or more invites your participation in the Star of David Society.

What agencies would a Leave More Than Memories fund support?

A major responsibility of Federation is to secure the future of the Jewish community at home and abroad. Working with our local, national and international partners, we help Jews around the world to live a Jewish life and ensure that no Jew, regardless of his or her circumstances, is left behind.

How do I leave more than memories?

A major responsibility of Federation is to secure the future of the Jewish community at home and abroad. Working with our local, national and international partners, we help Jews around the world to live a Jewish life and ensure that no Jew, regardless of his or her circumstances, is left behind. We do this in many ways, including raising money annually from our generous donors and allocating it where it does the most good. We also encourage donors to consider creating an endowment fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, to ensure their commitment to community is maintained in perpetuity.

If you already have an endowment fund:

If you contributed to the Founders’ Wall in 1988 or to the Continuity Fund

Our community’s leaders realized the annual CJA campaign would not be sufficient to fund the community’s needs as costs and competition for donations increased, and established the first perpetual annual campaign endowment with the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba in 1988. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the organization of our local Jewish community and the 40th anniversary of the State of Israel, a fundraising project called the Founders’ Wall was undertaken to raise capital for this endowment fund. It was subsequently renamed the Continuity Fund, which was changed to Leave More Than Memories in 2001.

Donors to either of those earlier named funds are listed as Leave More Than Memories funders, and can increase the amount of their gift at any time to match personal circumstances.

Establishing an Endowment Fund

Each family has a unique financial situation. Establishing an endowment fund to create a legacy gift of any size can be designed to match your personal circumstances.
