High Holidays Synagogue Services 2020

Adas Yeshurun Herzliya

Adas Yeshurun Herzliya will offer three distinct types of service during the High Holidays this year.  Safety is an important guiding principle.  We will keep the number of people allowed in the building at any time at a maximum of 50, arrange seating so that appropriate physical distancing is maintained and shorten the services where permitted by Halacha to minimize contact time.  All individuals will be required to wear face masks from the time they enter the building until they leave the building.  The building will be cleaned and sanitized between each service.

Children under the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah may not attend any indoor service. We cannot provide for the normal supervision or activities given the circumstances. However, we will have a special shofar blowing for children on Sunday, September 20th.

We will hold prayer services in the building with reserved seating.  We will have three services each day on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur – early morning, late morning, and late afternoon.  Participants are being asked to select one of these services each day.  We expect they will last between 1.5 hours and 2.5 hours.

Rabbi Benarroch will lead a Zoom service on Erev Yom Kippur featuring Kol Nidre and a Yizkor service before the holiday begins.  Participants will have enough time to have supper before the Fast begins at 7:14.

Three prayer services will be held in our building with registered and open seating: Mincha/Maariv on Erev Rosh Hashana (September 18), Maariv on Yom Kippur night, and Neilah.  All individuals must register with our office to attend but seating will not be reserved.

Rabbi Benarroch will provide his sermons online and a number of interactive classes will be offered during the week between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur on Zoom.

At the current time, we are holding daily Mincha/Maariv services on the parking pad behind our building from Sunday until Friday.  We are holding morning Zoom services on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and indoor morning services on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday.  Weather permitting, we hold expedited morning services on Shabbat on the parking pad.  (We had only one indoor service on Shabbat).

Please call 204-489-6262 for additional information.

Chabad-Lubavitch of Winnipeg

Chabad-Lubavitch of Winnipeg warmly invites you to join us for the High Holidays. Services will be interspersed with explanations and page guidance.

This year, because of COVID-19 restrictions, we are limiting the number of participants, so that we can follow social-distance guidelines. If you would like to join, you will need to register online and indicate how many are attending and whether they are of a single family.

Seats will be placed at a distance of approximately 2 metres apart, unless they are for members of one household.

All attending are required to wear protective masks, which we are providing at the entrance. Upon entering, you are required to wash your hands carefully with soap and water. Please do not attend, if you experience symptoms that might be an indication of COVID, such as unusual heavy coughing, pain of chest and breathing, severe stomach pain or high fever.

We are offering an alternative outdoor service of Shofar blowing, on Sunday 2:00 pm, the second day of Rosh Hashanah—in Chabad's parking lot. Parents of small children that cannot attend indoors because of the difficulty of having them social-distance, or anyone that feels more comfortable outdoors, are welcome to attend this Shofar Event.

At Chabad everyone is welcome, no matter of their religious, educational or economic background. Our motto is: The doors of heaven are open - and so are ours!

May G‑d grant you and yours, together with all our brethren, a healthy, sweet, and prosperous New Year, and may you be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life!

Chevra Mishnayes

Thank you again for your patience during these strange times.

As a follow up to my last email and after some amazing success with our weekly minyans we will be proceeding with ticket sales and registration for this upcoming high holiday season.

There are a couple of changes that are important to ensure we can make this service as meaningful and safe as possible. Some of you have already reached out to us with your information so we will be getting back to you with our confirmations.

This year we will be hosting dual abridged services for each of our day services as well as a dual services for Kol Nidre. The times will be as follows:

Rosh Hashanah Day 1
Saturday, September 19
9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Rosh Hashanah Day 2
Sunday, September 20
9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Kol Nidre
Sunday, September 27
3:30 PM to 4:30 PM (abridged)
6:30 PM (full service)

Yom Kippur Day
Monday, September 28
9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Neilah
6:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Based on government regulations we are able to host a maximum of 50 people per time slot in our building, including all board members and staff in attendance. Prompt attendance and exit is appreciated as we will require sufficient time between services for proper sanitization.

This year, like in previous years, we will require your registration ahead of time and will be making note at the door to ensure we do not go above capacity in any given time slot. Registration is on a first come first served basis so unfortunately you may not get your requested time slot. Please register by contacting chevra@shaw.ca.

We will be assigning seats to each individual, couple or family based on those living in the same household and will be directing each grouping to their designated area.  Though you may have preferences, we will require you to sit in your assigned seats during your requested time slots.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and look forward to seeing you for our services.

Due to the current situation, the basement, Kitchen, and small chapel will be off limits. We will also be limiting each washroom to one person at a time.

Congregation Etz Chayim

High Holy Days Services are Virtual this Year.

We are incredibly grateful to the our High Holiday Task Force, our Ritual Committee, and our clergy who have taken so much time to brainstorm different ways our Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur can look and feel meaningful and still follow the Health Authorities' recommendations of social distancing.

While there are not physical tickets, we ask you that you contact the synagogue to confirm your participation. We are kindly asking our regular attendees to participate at the same financial level as last year.

For each virtual seat you buy, you will receive one new mahzor (up to four per household) to use for these High Holidays. We also encourage you to invite friends and family who live out of town to join us. They can participate for $150 and the Mahzor can be sourced online.
