Immigration Program

Welcome! Thank you for your interest in our community and city.

Who we are

  • The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg is the representative body of the Winnipeg Jewish Community. The Federation works closely with the Province of Manitoba, and provides advice about the immigration process and moving to Winnipeg and our Jewish community.
  • The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg is designated as an organization able to provide applicants with a Letter of Support, thus enabling them to apply under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program.

What we do

  • Winnipeg’s Jewish community has been an active supporter of immigration to Winnipeg since 1999. Immigration has been a valuable source of energy and creativity for our vibrant and dynamic community, and the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg will continue to assist immigrants in applying for Canadian Permanent Residency.
  • We communicate with potential applicants by email to guide you through the process which includes an exploratory visit to our community. Our service is provided free of charge.
  • We also work closely with Jewish Child and Family Service in Winnipeg who provide services before and after the move to assist with settlement, employment networking, and connections to other community organizations.  You can visit with Jewish Child and Family Service here.
  • The Jewish community is ready to assist you in settlement once you receive permanent resident status. Our community offers day school, a community centre, synagogues and much more.

What we don't do

  • Federation does not arrange guaranteed employment offers or financial assistance and does not process any immigration documents.
  • Federation does not communicate or work with Immigration Consultants, nor there is need to hire a professional to apply to Canada.

What do I need?

  • Most of the information is available online for you to read. The application for the Manitoba Nominee Program (MPNP) is online.
  • Your first priority is to determine whether you may qualify for a permanent resident visa under Skilled Workers Overseas with our support or you qualify to any other stream. That information is available here.
  • Basic requirements are:
    • Age: You are between the ages of 21 and 45.
    • Education: You have completed post-secondary education (after graduating from High school) or at least one academic year and received a diploma or certificate.
    • Work experience: You have at least two years of full-time work experience within the past five years.
    • Language: The minimum score accepted for the equivalent of CLB 5 or higher / IELTS 5 in each category.
    • Adaptability: You can demonstrate your intention and ability to establish successfully in Manitoba.
    • Employability, based on your training and work experience related to your intended occupation, including any license or certification required in your country of residence
    • You do not have a stronger connection to another province
    • Settlement funds: As a general requirement applicants should have at least $10,000 (CDN) per the main applicant plus $2,000 (CDN) per each dependent.

How do I do it?

  • If you decide to proceed with immigrating to Manitoba, we will invite you to an exploratory visit. We recommend a stay of 7-10 days in order to explore housing, schools, employment opportunities and life in Winnipeg. We will suggest some tentative dates for your visit.
  • You must be invited by the Federation to come at a mutually agreed upon time. This invitation is offered to potential immigrants at the sole discretion of the Federation.
  • During the exploratory visit you will meet with a Program Officer for the Manitoba Nominee Program.  Following a successful exploratory visit, you will receive a letter of invitation for EOI that will allow you to submit an Expression of Interest. You will also receive our letter of support.
