The  Inaugural Switzer-Cooperstock Student Prize in Western Canadian History:

"Russian-Jewish Anarchist Solidarity in the  Canadian West, 1900–1950"

The Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada is pleased to present Maria Tarasova as the first winner of the Switzer-Cooperstock Student Prize in Western Canadian Jewish History. Maria will be joining us virtually from Paris, France. This prize, established by the Switzer family to honour their parents and grandparents is awarded for the best student essay on Jewish history in Western Canada with some preference for essays on secular Jewish schools in Western Canada, Jewish settlers, farmers, and traders in rural areas of Western Canada, and the immigration experience of Jews to Western Canada. Preference is given to research specific to the Jewish experience in the urban centers and rural communities of the Canadian Prairie Provinces.

Eligibility is open to students who have not yet taken their Ph.D. examinations and who have been enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution during the previous two academic years.

Sponsor: Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada, Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, Switzer Family.
