USHMM Johns Family Fund

The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg is honoured to participate in the USHMM Johns Family Fund, established to benefit the family of Officer Stephen Tyrone Johns who was killed in the line of duty at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on June 10/09. “We encourage all community members & members of the greater community of Winnipeg to participate”, said Jonathan Kroft, JFW President.

Registration for Taglit-birthright Israel Winter 2009/2010 trips opens on September 9, 2009 at 11:00am for new applicants. Applicants who have applied in the past can pre-register on our website on September 8, 2009 at NOON EST by using the same log-in information used on their past application(s). All registrations are done though www.israelforfree.com.

Meetings with MP’s


Community Relations has begun its biannual meetings with Manitoba Members of Parliament. Our first meeting, with first term MP Candice Hoeppner (C-Portage Lisgar) on June 24th took place in her Morden office. Meetings with MP’s will continue throughout the summer months.

Club Fed Class of 2009 Graduates

On June 11th, the graduating class of Club Fed celebrated at a reception held in their honour. This year’s graduates are: Vitaly Amrom, Val Benevet, Aileen Berger-White, Eduard Bruk, Michelle Broder, Jennifer Goldenberg, Danny Kaufman, Malka Khalimov, Matthew Ostrove and Yossi Perlman. Kneller Receives Koffman Award

Yasher koach to Skye Kneller, recipient of the 2009 Gerry Koffman Kehilla Award. The award is given to the Gray Academy Grade 12 student who has best demonstrated volunteerism in school community, Jewish community, and the Winnipeg community. Kneller was presented the award by Rochelle and Jodi Koffman at her graduation this past May.

Kavod 2009 a Memorable Evening

On May 27, Federation hosted the annual Kavod evening, honouring Sol Kanee Medal winner Yhetta Gold, Max and Mollie Shore Award recipient Larry Vickar and Harry Silverberg Award honouree Carrie Ransby. Also recognized were the Shem Tov and Grinspoon-Steinhardt winners. A keynote address was made by Khaled Abu Toameh. View photo gallery.

The PJ Library

The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg is pleased to announce the launch of the PJ Library program in Winnipeg. Watch for a letter and gift book in the mail in May 2009 to Jewish households. Pass the news along to anyone with children aged 6 months to 6 years that a free subscription for a treasury of age appropriate Jewish books and muisic is available this summer by signing up here.
