Saturday, November 22, 8:00 p.m. Yemen Blues Yemen Blues rocked the 2012 Tarbut Festival of Jewish Culture and created such a buzz that we have invited them to return to Winnipeg. If you missed them last time, don’t make that mistake again! The passionate and magnetic Yemeni-born Israeli singer Ravid Kahalani leads a roaring group of improvising brass, string and percussion players making intoxicating music that merges West African rhythms and ancient Jewish Yemeni melodies, mambo and funk. The group has been making huge waves, appearing in Paste magazine’s list of 10 International Acts to Watch and performing a captivating, star-making set at globalFEST, the most prestigious world music festival in America. With members hailing from Israel, Finland, Uruguay and the U.S., Yemen Blues captures myriad global influences, blending them into a highly danceable, soulful and raucous stew. Performing world-wide, vocalist Ravid Kahalani and his masterful musicians, including Israeli percussionist Itamar Doari, Israeli-Uruguayan percussionist Rony Iwryn, New York bassist and oud player Shanir Blumenkranz and New York trumpeter Itamar Borochov, are one of the most gripping and fun live bands in contemporary music today
